Last night everyone in youth group really connected. The theme of the night was “worship”.

We learned that worshiping God is not just singing on Sunday mornings. We learned that we can worship God in everything we do. We are all given different talents whether it be art, music, sports, etc. Through our talents we are able to praise and worship God. We spent about an hour of youth group quietly going to different stations to worship God.

In the stations we worshiped through singing, creativity, writing, looking at pictures, and praying for others. In each of these stations many of us were in constant conversation or prayer with God. After these stations, we all came back to small groups. In our small groups it was evident that God was working through each and every one of us. We are now all able to be open and honest in our small group.  Through our worship God has brought our youth group closer together.

So far we are in October and that means youth group has been well on its way, and we still have a lot of amazing things ahead of us. Last week at youth group we did something we don’t often do, but I personally enjoyed it and I really connected to God.

What we had was a different thing to do in all of the classrooms, like music, lighting candles and praying for others, looking at different photos, or writing.. all of these things gave us different ways to get closer to God.

Although I only spent my time in two of the rooms, I felt such a good vibe from the entire experience. After we had our time to ourselves we re-grouped (into small groups) and talked about how we felt about it and what we gained from the night, along with all sorts of other things.

I truly believe all of those who went last wednesday [october 14th] got closer to God through creative, as well as, more personal ways. I’m looking forward to doing more awesome things like this, this year and I know we have so much fun things ahead of us at youth group!

What’s new and in store for BCC this fall

15 Sep

We are excited to start the new school year.  Here is a blurb about what has already happened and what is still in store for this month.

We kicked things off last week and both groups (Fusion and Outlet) met.  There was great excitement in the air as our students and leaders returned.

At Fusion, I introduced our new series called “The Complete Youth Group”.  We will be looking at the early church in the books of Acts and have broken down their approach to a 4-fold focus.  It was all about the story of God and we are striving this year to focus on that with our High school students.  Here are the 4 main areas we hope to model our year around:

1)  Teaching/Sharing-  communicating the Story of God

2)  Community-  being and living the story of God

3) Worship-  celebrating the story of God

4) Service and Justice-   doing the story of God

Each week we will look in depth into these areas, spend time in God’s word learning together, and being in community in small groups and sharing how we can make practical applications to what we learn.   We are also beginning some new teams:  Creative Arts Team and a Youth Mission Team.  These teams will help more students take an active role in shaping our future, as well as planning current activities and events and helping transform what we do (action) and who we are  (identity)as a group.

Just last night, my wife and I hosted a Senior Cookout.  We have 15 Seniors at BCC this year, and 10 were able to come out for the cookout. It was great time to connect, laugh, share, and eat together as we dream about what this year can look like for this group of Seniors.  I always place a great deal of ownership of our youth group with the Seniors and help them realize their potential.  All of the younger students look up to them and learn from them each year, and so my role is to help them nourish their souls and developed spiritually this year.  We also want our church to be a place to help educated, train, and prepare them for the realities of college life once they leave our presence.

Our High school group is also beginning a new series for our Sunday morning time of Student education.  We have begun “Reverb”; Living out the Mission of God.  The entire year is divided into 6-week mini series to help keep things fresh and interesting.  The fall we are looking into the section called “Drive”, which helps us understand our role in partnering with God to see his dreams for the world come true.

Going back to our 4-fold focus, we hope that each week all four elements of church will be on display in what we do.  From games, food, lessons, small group time, community service, etc.. we intend to demonstrate what a complete youth ministry looks like.  And each month we hope to offer additional activities that focus specifically on a particular aspect such as a Community service work day, worship concert, bible study, or hang out time.

God desires to transform His people into a community that impacts the word- to bring God’s blessings and healing to others.  That is what we want to be about here at BCC, and especially at Fusion.

I am sure that Pelly will be sharing about his vision and dreams for Outlet this fall.    We are very blessed to have his presence and leadership here at BCC and Pelly will be taking over the weekly leadership and teaching tasks at Outlet.

Thanks for reading everyone!   -Dan Haugh, Pastor of Student Ministries

-Chloe, Haley, Julia, Sarah

As I look toward my senior year, I am excited for youth group! Youth group has been such a big part of my life and I know many of the other students here feel the same way. I am especially excited for the new service opportunities that this year holds and all the new ideas that students are voicing, but also the new committees. I really believe this will better allow students to serve in the areas that they love such as creative arts committee(not me!) but i myself look forward to the Youth Mission Committee. Mission work has personally touched my life, and i look forward to the opportunity to let God work in our youth group and allow us to be his hands and feet. God wants us to serve him through our talents, so i really believe that the new committees will better serve the Lord. Continue to pray for our youth group, that people will feel accepted, and most importantly that God will lead the way.
